At our workshop last week, we had the chance to see a
Bearded Dragon up close.
In Literacy, we have spent a lot of time learning about
writing an effective report.
Can you write a paragraph about what the Bearded Dragon
looks like? Remember to include all the features needed in an interesting
report. You may develop your report with more paragraphs of information if you
can.
Miss Jolliffe when i do my home work can you use Genrilises
ReplyDeleteGeneralisers are a key feature of non-chronological reports so I would love to see you include them.
DeleteThe bearded dragon has a spikey back and has orange eyes and has sharp nails.
ReplyDeletethat was Pavan about the bearded dragon
ReplyDeleteCan you give me any other information about the Bearded Dragon? For example, where does it live? Why is it suited to that environment?
DeleteThe bearded dragon looks very scary, but mostly some bearded dragons are not that scary as others .The bearded dragon looks like a frog because when it breaths under its belly it breaths like a frog and the bearded dragon looks like a lizard .
ReplyDeleteThe Bearded dragon was pale white. It looked like a chameleon It has a black ruff and it puffs it out to scare away predators. It has sharp nails. Many of them are green.
ReplyDeleteI have had some comments I cannot post so please make sure that you only use your first name. Check the blogging rules if you are not sure.
ReplyDeleteA brief reminder, if you want to write a whole report you can.
The Bearded dragon is very scary. They are harmful creatures. They have beastly eyes. It had white and pale skin. Many of them are a greenish color. The majority of Bearded dragons live in the rain forest. They have sharp claws.
ReplyDeleteMubarak, can you now add more detail by telling us why the Bearded Dragon survives so well in the rainforest? Remember to make the point, explain it and expand it.
DeleteThe Bearded Dragon with a scientific name Pogona Vitticeps are naturally found in the desert of southeast Australia. They come in varieties of colours such as; brown, grey, reddish-brown, red, yellow, white and orange.
ReplyDeleteThey have a triangular shaped head and contain rows of spikes that resemble thorns. This is a mostly feared creature with scaly skin and thorns up his neck. It pumps its thorny neck and turns black to scare its predators
They stand on four stout legs and have well muscled bodies. Their tail is half the size of their body. Unlike other lizards, the bearded dragon cannot regenerate any parts that it looses. It has griping legs and holds tight to whatever it is resting on.
Siddharth, you have included many great details in this. However, when carrying out research, make sure you create a skeleton to identify the key facts and then use the skeleton to guide you as you write your own report. Be careful not to follow the initial research too closely.
DeleteVery technical words Siddharth!
ReplyDeleteThe Bearded Dragon has a spikes as a beard and it puffs it beard until it is HUGE then it turns it black to sometimes scare things away.
ReplyDeleteTabby, I think you can add a little more detail to this. Try extending your report using connectives such as, furthermore, however etc.
DeleteThe Bearded Dragon
ReplyDeleteThe Bearded Dragon is a species of lizard. Most wild bearded dragons live in Australia. Their skin is pale white and they have a spiky beard under their chin. They have sharp claws on each foot. They have four legs and four feet. They also have very long tails.
The Bearded Dragon has eyes on either side of its head like a bird. When they get scared most of them puff up their beard and turn black.
Esme
Welldone! You have included lots of detail about what the Bearded Dragon looks like.
DeleteI also like that you have used a generaliser (Most).
Can you now write another paragraph to tell me about their habitat?
The Bearded Dragon is white and sometimes it scares people away by making its beard enormous and black it scares other animals who try to eat them. The Bearded Dragons nails are really sharp these bearded dragons can change colour like dark scales when its breeding.
ReplyDeleteBearded Dragons are called that because the spikes and scales they have around their head resembles a beard. They use this as a defence mechanism and will expand their throat whenever they feel threatened
If you have a beaded dragon and its tail gets lost it will not regrow.
Elson, you have included lots of information. Just make sure that you always use your own words. Try creating a skeleton first on paper and then use this to jog your memory when writing the actual report.
DeleteI mean if you have a bearded Dragon and its tail get lost it will not regrow.
ReplyDeleteBearded Dragons are diurnal and omnivorous lizards (reptiles), the most common species being the Inland Bearded Dragon (Pogona Vitticeps). They originate mostly in the dry woodlands and the deserts of eastern and central Australia, and they are very common in zoos, and also quite popular as pets. They have an average lifespan of 4 to 10 years.
ReplyDeleteThese lizards can be of many different colours depending on the environment they come from, but they are usually between tan and yellow, and they can regulate their body temperature by changing colour from light to dark. They have spines resembling thorns coming out of their triangular head and also from the sides of their muscular bodies. They also have four strong legs and a robust tail, which does not regenerate if it falls off (unlike that of other lizards). Their average length is between 16 to 22 inches, with the tail being about half of their body length.
They occupy a variety of habitats, including subtropical woodlands, savannahs, deserts, arid and rocky areas. In the morning, they are often found basking on rocks, although they like to live in bushes and trees. When temperatures soar, bearded dragons burrow underground.
During the daytime, they forage for food such as insects, small lizards and mammals, fruit, flowers; about 20% of their diet consists of plant matter. Their predators are large Goannas, birds of prey, Dingoes etc.
Bearded dragons are very territorial in nature, and when threatened, a bearded dragon bobs its head, flattens its body and puffs out its throat, resembling a spiky beard - which is why bearded dragons are called so. The beard is used to show aggression, and it opens its mouth as well to look intimidating.
When bearded dragons recognise other members of their group or show submission, they stand on three legs and slowly wave the other leg in circular motion.
The bearded dragon has a spiky chin and its got scary eyes they have the ability to change colour during challenges between males. When the dragons are feeling threatened they drop there bodies against the ground and puffs out its spiny throat, opens its jaws to make them appear bigger.
ReplyDeleteThe Bearded Dragon is a kind of lizard. They come from desert areas of Australia. Bearded Dragons are a pale, sandy colour. They have spiky spines along the sides of their body and around their heads. When they are scared they puff out their beards which turn darker. Some Bearded Dragons can grow up to 60 cm long.
ReplyDeleteBearded Dragons also make excellent pets, but you must make sure you give them the right food. All Bearded Dragons are omnivores. They eat vegetables, non-citrus fruit and insects. Avocados are not good for them as they are poisonous to Bearded Dragons.
Good explanation Isabel.
DeleteIsable I have 2 stars and a wish.
DeleteMy star is that you included lots about how it look like
and my other star is that you included a sentence to do
something with Maths.
My wish is that you would include 3 adjectives in your sentence
for next time .
Isabel I think you might have copped the word Avocados from somewhere
so I would like you to write the meaning of Avocados.
Annaya, I am glad you like Isabel's work. Can you leave her 2 stars and a wish?
DeleteBearded dragons get their name from their spines under their neck, which look similar to a beard. They have a strong box shaped head, a stocky body covered in small scales which looks a little bit flattened, a row of spines down either side of their body, and a long whip like tail which makes up for over half the total body length. They can come in many different colours like yellow, red, brown and orange. When feeling frightened the bearded dragon will flatten its body against the ground to help it appear bigger, its beard will turn black and it may hiss softly with its mouth gaping.
ReplyDeleteAnaaya, you have used an effective mix of description and factual information in this paragraph. Can you now extend your report to include a paragraph about the habitat in which Bearded Dragons can be found?
DeleteA bearded dragon is a mini dragon with a pack of changes.
ReplyDeleteThey are green and white.
When they are so angry they use a scary beard that fears the meat eaters to protect the young ones.
Yogith can you be more specific.?and try to make sence but I like your work doing this will improve your it see if you can use some key features like the ones we used in class.
DeleteThe bearded dragon has a beard that is very spiky. Its body colour is yellow also its special ability is puffing up its beard and turning it black. It comes from Australia, the southern eastern part of Australia in woodlands and deserts. Its skin feels prickly and its eyes look like black shiny dots. Its feet are very skinny and if you touch their toe nails they are very sharp. Bearded dragons have a medium length tail with spikes on the top. When I saw it I thought it looked quite funny.
ReplyDeleteBearded dragons have soft spikes, and creamy, orange and black skin. They can live up to 10 years. They are a type of lizard which are reptiles which give birth to their young as eggs. They are diurnal which means that they are active during the day and sleep at night, like humans. Bearded dragons eat insects and vegetables, they are omnivores.
ReplyDeleteRemember to consider how to organise this information into clear paragraphs. Each paragraph should be based on a particular topic.
DeleteWhen the bearded dragon is annoyed by a predator it puffs out it's beard and it grows very big and black. It makes it look horrifying and scares the enemy away.
DeleteThe bearded dragons (Pogona Vitticeps is it's scientific name) is a medium sized lizard, mostly twelve to twenty four inches long. A Bearded Dragon has a triangular shaped head with rows of sharps spines underneath its mouth. When predators try to eat it the Bearded Dragon will puff it up and it will turn black. This looks like a beard and that's why Bearded Dragons are called so. These lizards crawl on four short legs showing off the sets of spines on either sides of their body. Bearded Dragons are usually a mix of green, tan, yellow and red colours. These days breeders produce Bearded Dragons with a lot of colour variations for eg Red, Yellow, white, blue, black and purple.
ReplyDeleteThere are nine different species of Bearded Dragons and their size and length depends on the species/breed, their environment, their diet, their health and sex. Bearded a Dragons live between 5-14 years.
Bearded a dragons are omnivores and their diet includes vegetables, insects and non-citrus fruits.
Prisha
The Bearded Dragon has sharp claws. Also there diet includes insects, vegetables and non-citrus fruits. Also they live betwee 5-14 years.
ReplyDeleteRemember to vary your sentence openers. You have used 'also' twice and so think about other words you could use.
DeleteThe Bearded Dragons bright skin is a pale white colour there claws are a dark grey kind of colour they have the ability to puff up there throat or neck when they are disturbed and then turn dark black.
ReplyDeleteZayn my STAR is that you used the word ability.
DeleteAkhila I Want to thank you for your star again.
DeleteZayn, should you have used there, their or they're when describing the Bearded Dragon's claws?
DeleteI forgot I should of used their
DeleteThe bearded dragon is named that because of the spikes that are about a centemeter long these assemble a useful beard this can be used for 3 things 1. It doesn't do this very often but when in tall white grass it can camouflage and when the carnivore (meat eater or predator) approaches it goes right past it 2. It can show of its terrifying spikes to scare them 3. This is the most famous strategy when disturbed in habitat or anywhere it puffs up its beard and turns it black this makes them look bigger and then is scares the predator away thats my 3rd comment on the Bearded Dragon I hope you like it Mrs Joliffe by!
ReplyDeleteMrs Joliffe I hope you like my comments that are being posted on the blog by me.
ReplyDeleteZayn, it is great to see you so enthusiastic about the blog.Thank you for all of your posts!
