Your favourite author

For homework this week, I asked have asked you to write about your favourite author.

This prompted me to think about my favourite story and author.

When I was younger, I watched the film 'The Secret Garden'. I really loved the film, it took me through so many different emotions and I, of course, wished that I could have my own secret garden.

After watching the film, my family encouraged me to read the original story by Frances Hodgson Burnett.

I enjoyed this even more than the film. There was so much more to the story and I found that the characters were developed more in the story. The description of the garden was so vivid and it was probably the first time that I realised how powerful stories can be.

So, although the author may not be my favourite author now, I still regard it as a favourite book and when the film is repeated, often around Christmas, I always try to watch it as it brings back lots of happy childhood memories.

So, I hope you are thinking carefully about your favourite author. If you would like to share your thoughts on our blog, I'd love to hear them.

  1. It is very difficult for me to pick my favourite author since I have so many of them to choose from. I love the books written by the following authors – Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Roald Dahl, Anthony Horowitz, Jeff Kinney, Anthony Read, Enid Blyton and many more. But the one I chose is . . . Michael Morpurgo. He is a world famous author who has written over 100 books. He is often referred to as a master story-teller, and for good reasons too. I read many of his books and absolutely loved all of them. I find them gripping, touching and moving. I learnt a lot of new words from them that I try to use, but most importantly I learnt a lot about life from his books...ISHAAN

  3. I love reading, and I like reading books by:Jaqueline Wilson, Jeremy Strong, Leila Rasheed, Vivid French, and Roald Dahl. All these authors have entertained me a lot, but my favourite author is Jaqueline Wilson. She's used all the things that make stories very interesting:adjectives, adverbs, connectives and WOW words and a very clever brain.

    1. Jeff Kinney is certainly a popular choice! I like how you have also thought about the story that the pictures help to tell.

  6. My favourite author when I was in year 3 was Enid Blyton I loved all her stories especially the Famous 5 adventures. I loved they way she built up tension and I remember worrying that something unpleasant might happen to the children. The best thing though was when they solved the mystery and everything was back to normal.
