During this term we have really enjoyed
learning about Rocks and Soils in Science. We especially enjoyed learning about
volcanoes. What have you learnt about volcanoes? Can you explain how and why
they erupt?
Volcanoes erupt because of weak lines of earth crust split into half,as that happens the mantle burts out, creating a volcano .When they erupt actively they can let out ash,gas and hot magma. The mantle is smooth liquid so it has most chances to spreed.
Earth is made out of different, tectonic plates. When the plates repel and one overlaps over another and leaves a big gap.
In the mantle there is molten lava flowing. The molten lava shoots up and fills the hole, which causes an eruption. That is how volcanoes erupt.
Below the earth’s crust there is a layer called Mantle, which is filled with rocks that keep on shifting and moving like crazy. When rocks in mantle collide with each other or leave gaps it produces heat and this in turn melts rocks beneath the Mantle. Molten rocks create liquid called Magma. Pressure of these molten rocks in liquid form is higher than the solid rocks surrounding them. When the magma’s pressure is so high it tries to come to the surface as magma has lots of water and dissolved gasses. It explodes once it reaches the surface. That is why lava erupts.
Volcanoes erupt because of weak lines that push together. When they become flat the volcano erupts. The mantle's lava pushes itself up the volcano which makes it erupt. It let's out lots of hot magma, ash and gas.
Volcanoes are caused by cracks and weaknesses in the Earth’s crust. There are plates on the Earth’s series that move and collide. Pressure builds up under these & lava spews out. A volcano is formed by reaped eruptions.
A volcano is an opening in the Earth’s crust, through which hot lava, volcanic ash and gases come out from the hot, molten magma chamber below.
Depending on the activity, volcanoes are described as:
Still active and erupt frequently Dormant (temporarily inactive) Extinct (never likely to erupt again)
Volcanic eruptions may have a devastating effect on people and environment. However, they also have a positive impact on the area, e.g. the soil benefits from it, tourist attractions, and the heat and activity inside the Earth near the volcano can provide opportunities for creating geothermal energy.
The inside of a volcano has the following parts:
The magma chamber is a collection of magma inside the Earth, below the volcano. The main vent is the main outlet for the magma to escape. Secondary vents are smaller outlets through which magma escapes. The crater is created after an eruption blows the top off the volcano.
As we all know, the Earth has three main layers:
The Crust, which is made up of solid rock The Mantle, which is a layer of thick, molten rock The Core, which is made up of an outer liquid layer and a solid center with temperatures over 5,000°C.
This means that this planet is like a huge, fiery ball of hot, molten rock surrounded by a few kilometres of relatively cool, hard rock - the Crust.
Hot molten rock called magma in the upper Mantle, being lighter than the surrounding rocks, rises upwards because of buoyancy. Also, gases dissolved in the magma escape and try to expand at the same time. These create a huge pressure causes the magma to rise through cracks or weaknesses in the Earth's crust. An eruption occurs when this pressure forces the magma up the main vent, towards the crater in the top of the volcano. Some magma will also be forced out of the secondary vent at the side of the volcano.
Some volcanic eruptions are caused by tectonic movements, which are very slow movements of the huge plates that make up the earth’s crust. The tectonic plates can move away from each other (divergent plates) or collide with each other (convergent plates), and in both cases create openings in the crust at their boundaries, through which the magma can erupt under pressure.
Under the earth’s surface (the crust) there is liquid rock (magma). Sometimes this magma squeezes up through holes in the surface making a tunnel. Gradually more and more magma builds up until the volcano erupts and the hot liquid rock (lava) spurts into the air.
Under the Earth's crust is the boiling hot mantle. A volcano is where the crust is weak or has a hole in it and the mantle comes out. Now it's called lava. Some volcanoes don't erupt and some do. Volcanoes erupt because lots of energy builds up and needs to find a way to escape. This is when a volcano erupts.
When a volcano erupts the lava may explode or flow out. Rocks, ash and gases may also come out of a volcano.
Mount Vesuvius erupted a very, very long ago and buried Pompeii under 4 to 6 metres of ash and pumice (a volcanic rock).
Mummy and Daddy have seen the volcanoes in Iceland. They showed me the photos - they are awesome!
The Earth has different layers and it is made up of many plates. Sometimes due to heavy pressure in the Earth surface, they crack or shake. Magma is the compound mixture of hot lava under the earth surface. Due to the high pressure of magma, the surface burst massively and lava flows out. There are many volcanoes around the Earth. Few of the places are Pompeii and Southern Italy etc.,
I found out that lava flows from a magma chamber were the lava is kept. The lava flow goes up a central tube and escape out of a vent which lets out volcanic stuff comes out.
Volcanoes erup because the mantal is the hotest part of the earth. So the mantal is holding the lava and when the volcanoe erups the lava cams fru the volcanoe the end. Also it is realy hot.
volcanoes have layers underneath, mantle which is plates of rocks that move around and if they separate heat causes this to melt into liquid which is called magma. This travels up the middle of the volcano melting more rock and with the gases building up it then erupts from the top this is called lava.
There could always be erouptions wich are really dangerous but on the earth there is a long line on the crust. Maybye there is a volcano at one point so it could be on the top or the bottom. Even though volcanos are very dangerous because it has magma and I thing it changes to lava. Also why volcanos are dangerous is because there very big and they can explode. For example if you are near a volcano and it started to explode it will give you a fright and lava rushes to the top of the volcano it will make smoke wich you can't breathe into and lava goes to the smoke because it rushes to the top.
Volcanos erupt because of the mantle it pushes up the middle and bursts out they both catapult giant peices of dried magma and pour lava. In school we learnt about a giant eroption I think in a place called ponko I think it was called the ash went about 16 meteres. But I think we could study this we all know volcanoes give us igneos rock there are many holes in it. In the eroption If you were mining you would just poof into stone because it was so dangorus an d filled with rock you would just turn into an igneos statue and freeze.
