Your favourite author

For homework this week, I asked have asked you to write about your favourite author.

This prompted me to think about my favourite story and author.

When I was younger, I watched the film 'The Secret Garden'. I really loved the film, it took me through so many different emotions and I, of course, wished that I could have my own secret garden.

After watching the film, my family encouraged me to read the original story by Frances Hodgson Burnett.

I enjoyed this even more than the film. There was so much more to the story and I found that the characters were developed more in the story. The description of the garden was so vivid and it was probably the first time that I realised how powerful stories can be.

So, although the author may not be my favourite author now, I still regard it as a favourite book and when the film is repeated, often around Christmas, I always try to watch it as it brings back lots of happy childhood memories.

So, I hope you are thinking carefully about your favourite author. If you would like to share your thoughts on our blog, I'd love to hear them.

Tell me why!

I was pondering my next post to you all and wanted to make it something that you could do a little thinking about and research before posting your findings.

You, like me, enjoy asking interesting questions. With that in mind, my next few posts are going to ask you to 'Tell me why!'.

Think very hard about the questions, then use a search engine, like Kidzilla, to do some research. Write up your findings in your own words and comment on the post. It needs to be in full sentences but doesn't have to be very long.

I will leave you an answer to the question before I post the next interesting question.

Describing a setting

Over recent weeks we have been looking at how to describe familiar settings. I have posted a photo of a setting below. Can you write a short description of the place? Remember to think about what you might be able to see, hear, smell if you were there.

Think of wow adjectives and put them into sentences. Make you description vivid!
