Science Projects

For your homework this week, we would like you to begin thinking about what investigation you could carry out for your Science Fair projects.
Our focus for science week is forces and magnetism. Although your project doesn’t have to be based on this area, it could provide a little inspiration.
You could post notes of your plan on our blog.

Remember, you will need to work on your science project over half term and bring to school for the fair on Thursday 5th June. They should be presented on paper no larger than A1. You can use photos and written reports to explain the investigation that you carried out at home.

  1. Hello Miss Joliffe,

Thanks for suggesting a very good topic. I’m thinking of starting my experiment and basing my work on forces and magnetism.

I understand that there are 4 fundamental forces of nature, these forces are: -
    1) Gravitational force
    2) Electromagnetic force
    3) Strong force at *atom level
    4) Weak force at atom level

[*An Atom is smaller than a molecule and is made up of protons (positive charge), electrons (negative charge) and neutrons (Neutral charge)]

Electromagnetic force really interests me, as I believe that is the force behind the functioning of many of the day-to-day appliances we use. Can’t imagine how the world would be without a spectacular force!

The aim of my target experiment is to discover more about electromagnetic force and utilise this force in generating electricity albeit in small quantities.

Having known about scientist Michael Faraday’s experiments with electromagnetic force, I want my target experiment to visualise some of the basic principles introduced to the world by Faraday in the field of electromagnetism.

I would also like to experiment the repelling force of magnets. I have heard that like poles repel each other on a magnet and unlike poles attract each other. I would like to use the repelling force to stimulate more mechanical force in my experiment.

I hope you visualised some of my ideas for my experiment. Fingers crossed, please wait until the 5th of June for more information!

  3. Dear Miss Jolliffe,
Looking at the fact that we have learnt about electricity and circuits over the previous years, and that our main focus is on magnetism now, I have decided to investigate some basic facts about electromagnetism. I have always wondered about how electricity and magnetism are so widely apart, yet they are so closely interrelated, and together they play such an important part in our daily lives. Recently, I have been reading about Hans Christian Oersted’s experiment on electromagnetism, and Michael Faraday’s findings on Electromagnetic Induction.

    Dear Miss Joliffe,
My project will be about Why is acid so powerful?
All i know is that there is very powerful chemicals in acid but the water isn't very powerful.
You have acid in your tummy but that won't kill you
normal acid would probably kill you.
